Each Slide Should Support Your Goals
If your audience received just one slide from your deck – would they be curious enough to want to know more?
Make sure every slide sells your concept.
Here are some design tips to get to that point:
1. One Key Takeaway per Slide
First — Simplify! Don’t overwhelm your audience with information.
You want to control the information your audience retains as much as possible.
Too much information in a deck dilutes your audience’s ability to hone in on key messages.
If you’re able to get to ONE key takeaway per slide, that’s amazing.
2. Make sure the design highlights your message
The key piece of information should be the first thing the audience sees – this can be the title.
The second piece of information should be the second thing your audience looks at and so on.
Your audience’s eye should be led around the slide from most important item to least important.
3. Make it Visual
Your presentation is a visual medium — take advantage of it!
If you find you’re filling up a slide with text, rethink it.
What are your goals for the slide — could they be met with a large photography + one line of text? Or 3 key points represented by icons?
Always try to think of a visual solution over a purely text-based one.
