Start with the Big Picture
As you start your deck, think about your high-level goals – and your audience’s.
Your goals might be:
- Convince the audience that this is a great opportunity they should want to learn more about.
- Get an A in a class
- Convey that your company can meaningfully improve an industry
- Show that the company solves a problem in an attractive market
- Show how your company is different from the competition
- Show your passion and expertise
Your audience’s goals might be:
- Find a company that presents an interesting opportunity that they want to learn more about
- See that a student has retained and can apply information in a class
- Not be bored
- Learn more about a certain industry or marketplace problem
Knowing your goals — and your audience’s — will guide you on what to focus on in the deck.
For example, if you realize you’re spending a lot of time on certain slides that do not support these goals, move on to more high-priority slides.
